Romans 8:13-17
13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
- Living only in the flesh can bring temporary happiness but will not give you a fulfilling life. Allowing your flesh to be your leader will bring you nothing but death and sadness for your life with God. If you want to be fulfilled and live a life for God you must let the Spirit, end allowing your body’s desires to led you.
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
- You do not tell the spirit how to move in your life or how to eliminate your flesh desires but allow the spirit to guide you and led you in your life. You submit to listening and following the spirit and it will lead you into battle with your sins of the flesh. By a spirit led life; sin will be put to death.
15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
- Before Christ came and set us free to be righteous to God through his sacrifice we were fearful of God. The only way before Christ we could be righteous was to remain always in the straight path which was not possible. The Spirit led person will gain understanding of their father. This understanding will remove all fear and replace the fear with love and affection for our father.
16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
- As the Spirit guides us we become more like our father. As Children of god we start having the same values, priorities and taste of our father. We become a chip off the old block.
17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs —heirs of God and co- heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
- As a child of god we are now heirs. We are co-equal heirs with Christ we share in his suffering and will share in his glory.
